Disabled Students

In the academic year 2003/2004, the University of Public Administration and International Relations in Prague introduced the "Assistance Programme for Students with Disabilities".

The university provides barrier-free access to all its facilities and disposes of barrier-free equipment. Besides tuition-free education, the university provides the disabled with a personal computer with internet connection, a dictaphone and other equipment, including textbooks and the assistance of a study counsellor. The university enables the disabled to study according to an individual schedule and adapts the means of communication to their needs (electronic mail, study materials on the internet, individual consultations with teachers, etc.)

Within this programme, the Day Centre was established in which some of the disabled students work as volunteers and provide consultancy and information services.

Acknowledgement
This highly developed programme was acknowledged by the Mayor of the City of Prague who lent his auspices to the Day Centre, allowing it to become a facility not only for MUP students but also for students with disabilities from other colleges and universities in Prague. The university was awarded the prize of the Charter 77 Foundation and MUP disabled students were awarded the Křesadlo prize for volunteers. Recently, the university has been nominated for the MOSTY 2006 prize.

The university cooperates with government offices and other institutions to help find a first employment for students with disabilities who have the possibility to participate in a work experience programme there.

JPD3 Programme
In January 2007, MUP opened, in its second barrier-free campus in Žižkov, two sheltered workshops that provide administrative, economic and social services and in which our disabled students will be employed within the "Vytvoření tréninkových pracovišť pro osoby se zdravotním postižením" (Establishment of workshops for persons with disabilities) programme. This programme will allow the students to participate in a 14-month work experience in the above mentioned premises. This experience will facilitate their access to the work market.

Within the ERASMUS international student mobility programme, the university has arranged the possibility for our wheelchair bound students to participate in an exchange programme at the University of Bremen (one of our students has already completed the exchange at this partner German university with great success).

Students with disabilities can receive the international ECDL certificate that supports the development of computer literacy.

MUP has also arranged barrier-free accommodation for students with disabilities in barrier-free dormitories.
