The library provides study-related services to students and lecturers of MUP, collects, maintains and loans specialized literature with respect to the requirements of the MUP study programmes and their objectives.
Services Provided by the Library
All library services are provided only to registered members. (Registration is easy and fast - and it is free for MUP students. We recommend that all new students visit the library as soon as possible so that they can familiarize themselves with the provided services and register).
Library loans of specialized literature - books and periodicals
Relevant titles can be found in SIS, in the syllabi of individual courses or, as the case may be, they can be recommended directly by the lecturers. Other titles can be found in the library on-line catalogue at www.mup.cz/knihovna - all important information can be obtained in the catalogue records (author, title, location, key words). The librarian will find the book and bring it to you.
The usual term of loan is fourteen days. Books that are available only in one copy and periodicals can be obtained for on-site reading in the library only. If given permission by the librarian, you can also borrow these books and periodicals for a limited period of time, e.g. from Saturday afternoon until Monday morning. We also offer interlibrary loans.
Other study materials
The books and periodicals are selected in cooperation with the lecturers. The library holds at least one copy of required literature for all study programmes. Selected courses may also have materials on reserve with the librarian. The archive of MUP students' theses is also a valuable resource. Most of them are in Czech but the number of English BA and MA thesis is growing.
Electronic Resources
In addition to direct use of IT resources in the SIS, all computers in all MUP buildings allow access to JSTOR (database of interdisciplinary articles), Business Source Premier (full-text business database). Upon request, we can provide access to the International Political Science Review database.
Study Room Equipment
Adjacent to the library is a study room where you can find 20 work stations equipped with computers. Here you can use online study materials, edit your documents, save your files as well as scan and photocopy at the self-service photocopier. Library staff is always available to provide consultation and answer your questions relating to the library services.
On-Line Services
Searching the on-line catalogue (www.mup.cz/knihovna) is easy. You can enter your request in both Czech and English. If you are accessing the on-line catalogue from home, you can renew your loans in your reader profile or you can reserve books that are not available at the moment. The library will inform you via e-mail where to pick up the reserved book as soon as they are available. New events are published at the library website.
The library code of conduct and policies can be found at the library website. You can contact the library at knihovna@mup.cz or call +420 274 815 044.
The library staff is looking forward to seeing you in the library!
