On December 2, 2011 The Center for Security Studies at Metropolitan University Prague (MUP) hosted its third annual conference for academics and practitioners that took place in MUP’s Žižkov campus.

The conference examined the challenges and opportunities in the realm of national security policies faced by the Visegrad Group (V4) countries as a consequence of the recent budgetary cuts in their national security expenditures. In particular, the presenters were asked to examine the following topics:

  • The recent strategic security and/or defense reviews conducted in V4 countries
  • The potential for sharing and/or pooling of certain military capacities among V4 countries
  • The participation of V4 countries in major security arrangements and/or organizations (especially NATO, EU, OSCE, UN)
  • The bilateral security relations of V4 countries with major players in the EU and beyond, in particular with the United States and/or Russia
