2nd ed. Prague: Metropolitan University Prague Press, 2017. ISBN 978-80-87956-50-2

This publication deals with questions related to the legal protection of intellectual property while doing business, and this from the point of view of intrastate as well as international business relations. It derives from principles of legal protection, which are anchored in international treaties which bind the Czech Republic, and it takes them up with the explanation of legal regulations included in the national legislation. The first part of the publication concerns the legal protection of the industrial property subject matters, i. e. inventions, utility models, industrial designs, trademarks, appellations of origin and the geographical indications. An independent part deals with administration systems regarding the granting and maintaining of industrial property protection. Questions related to the protection of the business name, unfair competition, effects of the granted industrial property protections and their limits are also included. The attention is given to the contractual relations in the field of industrial property, especially license agreements, know-how and franchise agreements.

Chapters of the publication about administration systems regarding the granting and maintaining of industrial legal protection and the analysis of conditions to acquire it have a particular importance for the business domain. A further part of the publication deals with questions linked to copyright protection and its importance for the business sphere. A special focus is devoted to the legal protection of classic copyrighted works, the legal protection of computer programs, databases and compilation, photographic and architectonic works and audio-visual works. Then are covered questions of creation, content and authorship of a work. Significant parts pursue the personal and proprietary rights of the author, including contractual and compulsory licenses in the copyright field. Employees´ works and ordered works, competition works, and rights of performing artists are also delineated. For the industrial property field and for the copyright field there are common questions of the enforcement of these rights and the competent authorities.
