Rigorosum Proceedings

Metropolitan University Prague implements the Examen Rigorosum proceedings (i.e. a rigorous examination upon the completion of which the candidates receive a “small” doctorate abbreviated as PhDr. that is conferred and recognised in the Czech Republic) in the specialisation of International Relation and European Studies (in both Czech and English) and in the specialisations of International and Regional Relations in Industrial Property, Media Studies, and Political Science (in Czech only).

The Final State Rigorosum Examinations comprise the defence of the Rigorosum Thesis and a specialised oral examination. Successful applicants shall be awarded the title of Doctor of Philosophy (abbreviated as “PhDr.”) to be used before the name.

Within one academic year, two deadlines for the submission of applications to Examen Rigorosum Proceedings and two dates of Final State Rigorosum Examination are scheduled.

CONSULTATIONS FOR RIGOROSUM PROCEEDINGS applicants

Consultations for Rigorosum Proceedings applicants take place twice a year and focus on the elaboration of the Rigorosum Thesis proposal. The next session will take place as follows:

International and Regional Relations in Industrial Property (In Czech only)

MUP graduates of the following Master's Degree specialisations at MUP may apply for the Examen Rigorosum in the specialisation of International and Regional Relations in Industrial Property:

  • International and Regional Relations in Industrial Property
  • European Studies and Public Administration

Students enrolled in the in the Doctoral Degree study programme of International and Regional Relations in Industrial Property at MUP may also apply to the programme.

International Relations and European Studies (in both Czech and english)

MUP graduates of the following Master's Degree specialisations at MUP may apply for the Examen Rigorosum in the specialisation of International Relations and European Studies:

  • International Relations and European Studies (in both Czech and English)
  • Asian Studies and International Relations

Students enrolled in the Doctoral Degree study programme of International Relations and European Studies (in both Czech and in English) at MUP may also apply to the programme. The Doctoral Degree study programme at MUP is implemented in cooperation with the Institute of International Relations in Prague.

Media Studies (In Czech only)

MUP graduates of the Master's Degree specialisation of Media Studies at MUP may apply for the Examen Rigorosum in the specialisation of Media Studies. Students enrolled in the in the Doctoral Degree study programme of Media Studies at MUP may also apply to the programme.

Political Science (In Czech only)

MUP graduates of the Master's Degree specialisation of Political Science at MUP may apply for the Examen Rigorosum in the specialisation of Political Science. Students enrolled in the in the Doctoral Degree study programme of Political Science at MUP may also apply to the programme.
