07/04/2026 - Research in Psychology

Twenty-one first-year undergraduate psychology students attended a workshop led by Assoc. Prof. Martin Seitl from the Department of Psychology at Metropolitan University Prague and Dr. Petra Hypšová from Palacký University Olomouc to discuss the meaning, forms, and demands of psychological research.

The workshop raised key questions: What does it mean to “inquire” in psychology? What should psychology seek to understand, what should it not, and why? Students reflected on how research contributes to understanding human experience and behavior, as well as on the personal qualities and attitudes important for researchers – from perseverance and curiosity to integrity and the ability to collaborate.

An important part of the session was the search for individual direction: participants shared their interests, initial research ideas, and the questions that draw them to psychology. The discussion showed that high-quality research does not happen by chance, but results from the interplay of personal interest, theoretical grounding, and systematic work.

The workshop concluded with the introduction of the new research center CERERIS (Center for Research on Emotion Regulation and Interpersonal Systems), which offers students space, support, and tools for their first research projects – from study design to implementation and data analysis.
