MELNIKOVOVÁ Lea; FINGERLAND, Jaroslav. Kazachstán a Střední Asie: nové výzvy a perspektivy

1st ed. Prague: Metropolitan University Prague Press, 2016. ISBN 978-80-87956-49-6

The book is devoted to economic issues of the Central Asian countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. After introducing historical background that covers the development of states and ethnics and decades of Russian and Soviet dominance, a brief economic characteristic of individual countries is provided. The fundamental part of the book is dedicated to specific features and problems of the region. These are, first of all, issues related to exports of energetic resources, transportation and transit corridors, problems with water allocation and land use, interests of superpowers and regional powers in Central Asia and, last but not least, to integration processes in the region. The key question concerns the opportunities the countries have considering current circumstances. The book’s aim is to fill a “blind spot” in the Czech-written literature covering the Central Asian region from economic point of view.
